Senior Linux Engineer

Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: Compensation starts at $55/hour

A major technology company is searching for a Senior Linux Engineer for their Lead Linux team. This team’s mission is to provide full-scope delivery of technically sound, resilient, and supportable infrastructure solutions to clients.

Crucial skills include infrastructure architecture, build-out and configuration; management of application containers; and technical project leadership skills. This is a collaborative, results-oriented role, and the ideal candidate will bring a consultative approach, excellent leadership skills, a forward-thinking mindset, the ability to effectively collaborate with technical and non-technical team, and a commitment to excellence.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams in creating and applying highly available Linux Java-based infrastructures, and managing solutions utilizing JBoss, Coherence, WebSphere MQ, DB2 Connect, Apache, WebLogic, and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
  • Develop and implement solutions through writing Linux automation processes for systems, application containers, and hosted applications
  • Serve as primary infrastructure counsel for business unit and operations team projects
  • Demonstrate technical leadership on project assignments
  • Curate technical documents for Project and Operations teams
  • Create scripts for Shell, Python, Jython, Perl, etc. repeatable processes
  • Travel required: Less than 20% of year
  • Performs other duties as required
Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field experience OR a High School diploma and 5-7 years of relevant professional work experience

Job-Related Skills and Experience:

  • Experience utilizing a consultative approach while interacting with customers and appropriate representatives to analyze, validate, specify, verify, document and manage the requirements
  • Current, enterprise-class Infrastructure/System Engineering experience with Linux, Java, and Solaris platforms running on Intel servers using directly attached and SAN attached storage
  • Experience designing, implementing and managing solutions using one or more of the following technologies:

o WebLogic

o Oracle RAC

o Oracle Fusion Middleware

o JBoss

o Linux (Red Hat 7 Preferred)

o SUN OS (10/11 Preferred)

o Coherence

o WebSphere Portal

o WebSphere MQ

  • Script development (Perl, Python, Jython, Shell, etc.) experience
  • Experience with automated system builds and configuration management tools including HP Server Automation, HP Operations Orchestration, LDOM & Server Sizing experience, Sun Virtualization, and Red Hat Satellite Server
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and components including TCP/IP, DNS, NFS
  • Experience designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • Matrix team experience consisting of a variety of Infrastructure Engineering groups, as well as Development groups and Client Relationship groups
  • Ability to quickly learning new technologies required for accomplishing project goals
  • Advanced operational documentation skills, including Visio diagrams, high-level descriptions of the environment, and detailed instructions infrastructure development
  • Excellent customer service skills with high level of professionalism, and ability to work with complex situations
  • Proven ability to collaborate across multiple sites
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects and tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Close attention to detail
