Systems Engineer

The Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, building, modifying, and maintaining company computer systems. Responsibilities also include coordinating with internal customers to determine system design needs, troubleshooting and incident resolution, data analysis, and training other IT department staff. An analytical problem-solving work style, self-starting work ethic, superb communication skills, and comfort working in team environment, as well as the ability consistently perform well in high-pressure contexts are crucial to success in this role.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement updates to network hardware, operating systems, and attached devices. This includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation and testing of new network hardware and software
  • Support daily operations on network hardware and operating systems; this includes evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time, and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems
  • Lead the design, development, installation, configuration, and upgrading activities across enterprise server infrastructure
  • Partnering with operations engineers, design, develop and implement improvements to existing infrastructure to increase system stability and performance
  • Design, install, configure, test and maintain operating systems and system management tools
  • Guide IT team in monitoring and testing application performance for potential bottlenecks, identifying possible solutions, and implementing solutions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing vendors providing managed services for infrastructure support, ensuring adherence to established SLAs and other agreements
  • Design, develop, and implement security, backup, and storage solutions
  • Research security issues, standards, and products as required
  • Identify opportunities for automation and lead the creation and implementation of custom automation scripts
  • As an infrastructure subject matter expert, provide Level 3 escalation support for operations team in the troubleshooting and resolution of stability incidents and work with agencies/vendors for Level 4 support as needed
  • Provide technical training and support to IT staff


  • 3-4 years experience with hardware and software installation and maintenance
  • 2+ year experience writing and maintaining scripts in multiple languages
  • 4+ years of successful Windows networking experience in large enterprise environments
  • Extensive working knowledge of PCs, network hardware, operating systems and software
  • Strong knowledge in the following areas:
    • Active directory
    • Citrix XenApp/Xen Desktop, NetScaler ,Studio, etc.
    • GPO management
    • Cloud networks, preferably Azure
    • Windows 2016,2012,2008 etc.
    • Dashboards such as HP BSM Monitoring Suite
    • scripting, preferably Power Shell
    • SAN/NAS appliances, preferably with NetApp or EMC
    • Office 365 Administration
  • Strong familiarity with systems design methodologies, techniques, and tools; knowledge of technical architecture design patterns
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-starting work style
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities

Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field OR equivalent professional experience
